Electric OX Locker

Article written by Moab Man

Date Added: 01/18/2007

We broke the news here a few months ago about the OX Locker Electric Actuator in development. Now we have the pictures as OX Locker unveiled it to us!

The 2007 Off-Road Impact Show has a lot cool stuff; and over the next few weeks, we will be sharing more of it. However, we wanted to get this one out right away for all you considering an OX Locker in the next few months.
You will notice the cover now has a module located where the cable would normally enter the OX differential cover.
Internally, the operation of the locker has not changed. This allows those that already own an OX to convert over to the electric actuator just by changing the cover.
So how about some details?

When: Expected release is Easter Jeep Safari 2007, Moab Utah.

Cost: The price has not been set because it is still in final development. However, we can make an educated estimate of about $50 more than the standard cable setup.

George Seiler, Director of Global Sales, pointed out that the unit is sealed against water intrusion.

While we're sure this is true and should be more than adequate for water crossings, MOABJEEPER Magazine would not recommend sustained submersion.

What's not seen is the "smart" technology put into the electric actuator. Hidden inside is a small computer that determines whether or not all is properly lined up. It will not force the lockers shifting fork thereby preventing any damage to the locker, actuator, or shifting fork.

And understanding that &%@* happens. If you lose power for whatever reason, the locker will unlock. This is a nice feature for front locker applications.

Final Thoughts

It will be a bit of time before we have real world feed back, but we expect this electric actuator to be as sturdy as the lockers themselves. We also appreciate the steps taken to ensure the safety of the electric actuator which have been known to be torn off on other traditional electric lockers.

For those that prefer the tried and true reliability of the cable, it's not going away.

Our Thank You's!

MOABJEEPER Magazine would like to thank George Seiler, and his lovely wife Angela, for sharing some of the great stuff on the horizon from OX Locker.
