MOTHERS Back-to-Black

Article written by Moab Man

Date Added: 07/25/2010

Many of us love the sun and the resulting tan. However, a dermatologist will warn of the suns damaging UV and that warning very much applies to our Jeeps as well.

Now were not going to suggest something radical like cave wheeling, hmmm cave wheeling... but there are steps you can take to protect the black vinyl and plastics of your Jeep. Consider Mothers Back-to-Black to be sun screen and restorer for your baby. Not to be confused with actual sun screen or actual babies.

Mothers claims the following: When used as directed, Back-to-Black removes oxidation, ground in dirt, wax residue, and surface film. Treated surfaces will look new again and be protected against further oxidation or deterioration caused by sun, smog, ozone, water, chemicals and airborne contaminants.

Wow! That is quite a claim. All we wanted to do was restore the black finish to our fender flares. So please join us as we take about 30 minutes total to protect and restore the color to our decomposing (yeah they are that bad) rear fender flares.

1. After thoroughly cleaning and allowing the flares to dry; apply a liberal amount of Mothers Back-to-Black and massage in to the flare.

2. Allow the Mothers to completely dry and buff the flare. Unlike automotive wax it does not haze.

3. If you have streaking, reapply and buff.

Final Thoughts

We applied Mothers Back-to-Black to our wheel flares, vinyl bra on the front of our car, and some Bestop soft coverings for our Jeep. The results were mixed, but positive. Soft pliable vinyl really responds well and comes pretty darn close to that out-of-the-box color. The harder plastics of our extremely sun beaten flares did return to black, but the years of neglect and sun damage were a bit too much.

Bottom line? Just like using sunscreen, prevention goes a long way. We recommend you pick up some Mothers Back-to-Black, and just like sunscreen, apply liberally and often. Legal disclaimer: Please don?t confuse sunscreen and Mothers, or babies (Jeeps) and babies (the human kind).

Our Thank You's!
