Bushwacker Fender Flare Install

Article written by Special K

Date Added: 06/15/2006

So, you want to get bigger tires?

Well you might first want to check the state and local laws to make sure you do it legally. My friend had this problem with his TJ, so he decided to buy the Bushwacker Extended Fender Flares. They are plenty wide enough to cover your 31 x 10.5 tires, and with the correct wheel back spacing, 33 x 12.5 tires.

Included in Kit:
-4 fender flares
-2 side pieces
-Weather strip
-Hardware (bolts, lock nuts, washers, rubber spacers)

Installation

1. Before installation, set the new flares in the sun for a while so they are easier to work with.

Remove the side markers from your front flares. Just let them hang from the wiring for now.
 Save hardware

2. Remove old flares and the plastic guards inside the rear wheel wells.
You will probably need a crow bar or a big flat head screw driver to get them out.

3. Clean the area where your old fender flares were.

4. Cut the weather stripping to length and apply to the first flare.

5. Holding the fender flare in place, put a bolt through one of the holes. Make sure you have the metal washer on the outside and the rubber spacer between the flare and the body. Start the lock nut and continue to the next bolt until all nuts are started. Tighten all bolts until snug.

6. Repeat steps 4 & 5 for all the fender flares.

7. Reinstall the side markers

Final Thoughts

This installation is very easy. If you were going for the Tomb Raider Jeep look you?re getting closer. One thing that I would change is the color of the hardware. The bolts are very noticeable, and I think they would look much better powder coated black. Besides the shiny bolts, the Bushwacker flares are a nice upgrade to any wheeling rig. It definitely gives you a much more rugged look as well as keeping your rig street legal.
