BULLDOG 9500

Article written by Sheila and Andy Klemme

Date Added: 05/12/2007

Not everybody has the need for a thousand dollar winch.

With that in mind, Bulldog has stepped up to the plate with its 9500lb offering. This is a no-frills winch designed to do one thing? pull.

Installation

1. Mount the fairlead to the winch plate.

2. Connect the two black cables to the open terminal on the bottom of the winch motor

3. Mount the winch to the winch plate.

4. Pull the wire rope through the fairlead and attach the clevis hook.

5. Attach winch and winch plate to vehicle.

6. Connect the power and ground leads to the vehicle battery.

7. Plug in the remote and give it a try.

Installation Issues

The winch plate from Bulldog did not have the space necessary for the winch to clear the fairlead mounting bolts. We found it necessary to use a different winch plate.

The installation instructions are somewhat lacking. They seem to be out of order calling for installing winch plate on the vehicle prior to mounting the winch. They also instruct the installer to mount the winch on the mount plate twice ? once before installing the fairlead and once after. Furthermore, they do not mention connecting the ground cables to the bottom of the winch motor until after the winch is mounted to the plate.

We informed Bulldog about the problems that we had with the winch plate, and they are in the process of redesigning it. Until that time we suggest using a winch plate from a different manufacturer.

We also suggest that Bulldog update their installation instructions to make it easier for the installer.

Final Thoughts

Following the instructions we supplied above, this winch is easy to install. Bulldog has excellent customer service and responded promptly to our issues. If they update their winch plate and instruction manual, they could make this a top-notch customer experience.
